Apify is the scraping backend powering Overwise's lead-discovery layer. We orchestrate Google Maps, Instagram, business-directory, and verticals like ClassPass / OpenTable / Booking.com actors so you don't have to wire scrapers yourself.
Got a custom Apify scraper you've built or rented? On Growth and Founder Team plans, register your actor's ID and Apify API token in Overwise — we'll feed its output into the same lifecycle (dedup, verify, enrich, score, send).
On Starter and Growth, Apify scraping cost is bundled in your subscription — no separate Apify account needed. On Founder Team, you can optionally pay Apify directly with your own API token (useful for very high volumes where bundled cost becomes a constraint).
After Apify discovers a lead, Overwise's website crawler (a headless browser) runs your absence-signal probes against the rendered DOM — 'no booking widget', 'no live chat', 'no online checkout'. Costs ~5 LLM tokens per probe per lead, bundled in subscription.

Default: nothing to configure
Overwise's default discovery uses our managed Apify integration — Google Maps, Instagram, OSM Overpass, business directories, vertical aggregators. No setup required, no Apify account needed on Starter or Growth.

Bring your own actor (Growth+)
If you have a custom Apify actor, go to Settings → Discovery sources → Add custom Apify actor. Paste your Apify API token + the actor ID. We'll add it to the source-router pool, and the SourceRouter agent will pick it when your ICP matches.

Set source budget caps per campaign
Per campaign, you can cap how many leads can come from each registered source — useful when you want the AI router to prioritize cheap free sources (Greenhouse, GitHub, Wayback) before paid Apify scrapes (Outscraper, custom actors).

BYO Apify billing (Founder Team only)
If your scraping volumes exceed what fits comfortably in the bundled subscription, you can connect your own Apify account and pay Apify directly. Overwise routes through your API token; charges hit your Apify dashboard, not your Overwise bill.
When you bring your own Apify actor, Overwise stores your Apify API token encrypted at rest with AES-256, scoped to the project that registered it. The token is used only for invoking the registered actor — never to list or modify other actors on your account. Revoke from your Apify console any time; Overwise detects revocation and disables the source within one polling cycle.

Do I need an Apify account to use Overwise?
No. Default discovery uses our managed Apify integration with no account or token setup on your side. Apify cost is bundled in your Overwise subscription. You only need your own Apify account if you want to (a) bring a custom actor on Growth+, or (b) BYO billing on Founder Team for very high scraping volumes.
What kinds of actors does Overwise use by default?
Google Maps scraping (compass/crawler-google-places), Instagram hashtag and user fetchers, OSM Overpass for OpenStreetMap business data, Outscraper for SERP-driven discovery, vertical-specific actors for hospitality, fitness, and event-organizer segments. Can I run a custom scraper that isn't an Apify actor?
Not currently. Custom-source registration is Apify-only because Apify's actor execution model (containerized, isolated, monitored, cost-attributed) is what makes 'bring your own scraper' safe to expose. If you have a non-Apify scraper, the cleanest path is to wrap it as a small Apify actor; the platform's free tier covers most personal-volume use.
Are absence-signal probes Apify-based or Overwise-native?
Overwise-native. Apify discovers the lead (gets you the company + website URL); Overwise's own headless-browser crawler runs the absence-signal probes against the actual rendered DOM (catches JavaScript-injected widgets that curl-and-grep would miss). The probe results feed into the per-lead reasoning the SaaS founder sees in the dashboard.
